CPF is committed to its sustainability goals, enhancing the construction of buildings and factories with environmentally friendly "Green Building" (TREES) standards. This initiative focuses on sustainable energy use in buildings while promoting the health and well-being of building users. Highlighting the project "Nong Chok Engineering Excellence Center," a PLATINUM level green building, CPF has joined forces with Nippon Paint, a leader in eco-friendly building paint innovation, to elevate construction standards towards a sustainable society.

Mr. Peeraphong Krinchai, CEO of the Central Engineering Division of Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CPF), revealed CPF's sustainability mission aimed at achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. As part of this mission, CPF is upgrading the construction of its buildings and factories to meet the "Green Building" standards set by the Thailand Green Building Institute, or TREES.

The TREES green building certification is awarded to buildings constructed with efficient energy and resource use, minimizing environmental impact and promoting sustainability. This certification requires evaluation based on criteria such as the use of eco-friendly construction materials, overall energy efficiency of the building, and the health and safety of building users.

Mr. Peeraphong further stated that with a commitment to development, CPF collaborates with partners throughout the construction supply chain to elevate eco-friendly construction material standards in line with green building evaluation criteria. One of the partners on this sustainability journey is Nippon Paint, an innovative building paint brand that shares a vision of sustainability and offers products that meet CPF's mission. Through this collaboration, CPF has utilized Nippon Paint products in the construction of three key projects:

  • Advanced Pharma Laboratory and R&D Building: A modern pharmaceutical laboratory building that has received TREES green building certification at the GOLD level.
  • Five Star Business Factory, Nakhon Ratchasima: The most advanced production facility for the Five Star restaurant business, this is the first factory building of CPF and Thailand to apply for TREES green building certification at the PLATINUM level.
  • Nong Chok Engineering Excellence Center: CPF's first technology innovation hub, gathering personnel for research, development, and engineering technology trials. This center aims to create excellence among personnel and lead innovation and technology for the organization. This building is a model for energy conservation and is a TREES PLATINUM level green building, the highest standard that will enhance CPF's construction project standards in the future.

“CPF is committed to developing the entire supply chain of product manufacturing to reduce environmental impact, aiming for Net Zero by 2050. The green building projects are a crucial part of enhancing CPF's construction project standards throughout the lifecycle of building construction and usage. We are very pleased to partner with Nippon Paint, a partner with a shared vision, to be part of CPF's sustainability development journey,” said Mr. Peeraphong.

On the other hand, Mr. Watchara Sirithichai, General Manager of Nippon Paint Decorative Coatings (Thailand) Ltd., the number one innovative building paint brand in Asia with a long history from Japan, stated that Nippon Paint's sustainability vision aligns with CPF's, as the company is implementing the “Green Plan” aimed at achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions as well. This plan includes developing Nippon Paint's building paint products to be high-quality innovative paints that are both ‘eco-friendly’ and ‘user health-friendly’.

Nippon Paint's eco-friendly innovative products used in CPF's buildings and factories that have received TREES green building certification at the GOLD level or aim for PLATINUM certification include three products: Nippon Paint Weatherbond for exterior, Nippon Paint Aircare for interior health, Nippon Paint Bodelac for metal, and Nippon Paint Red Oxide Primer. All these products are ultra-premium grade paints that contribute to sustainability and promote environmentally friendly certification standards.

  • Reduce Embodied Carbon from the construction phase: Nippon Paint products have low carbon emissions, such as Nippon Paint Weatherbond and Nippon Paint Aircare, both of which have received Green Label certification from the Thai Environment Institute, guaranteeing their eco-friendliness.
  • Reduce Operational Carbon after building usage: Nippon Paint is a high-quality innovative paint that lasts longer, reducing the need for frequent repainting and conserving resources for building maintenance. Notably, Nippon Paint Weatherbond has properties that can reduce heat in buildings by up to 90%, helping to lower electricity consumption for cooling, and has received High-Efficiency Energy Saving Label from the Ministry of Energy, certifying its ability to reduce indoor heat.
  • Low VOCs: Reducing air pollution causes, especially for the interior paint Nippon Paint Aircare, which is superior as it contains zero VOCs and has received GREENGUARD GOLD Certification from UL in the USA, guaranteeing very low emissions, promoting better health and maximum safety for building users.
  • Nippon Paint products are free from lead and heavy metals: This helps reduce health hazards and promotes better health for building users.

“Nippon Paint is very proud to be part of CPF's mission to construct projects that are environmentally friendly and certified as green buildings. Nippon Paint is ready with both vision and innovative paint products to walk alongside partners to promote achieving sustainability objectives and develop towards a low-carbon society together,” concluded Mr. Watchara.
